Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has introduced an overhauled A60 articulated dump truck (ADT) that delivers 15% better fuel efficiency and 5% higher productivity than its predecessor. Featuring a 55,000-kg payload capacity, the machine will make its world debut at Conexpo 2026.
“This is the largest model in our lineup, designed to take on the toughest ground conditions and help customers maximise their uptime, productivity and safety,” said Tyler Smith, product manager of articulated haulers at Volvo CE.
According to Volvo CE, the A60 is the largest 6x6 ADT in the industry, and its new all-Volvo powertrain features a robust transmission and axles that allow full power to be used in all gears. Its active hydraulic front suspension enables fast hauling speeds while its automatic drive combinations (including 100% differential locks), all-terrain bogie, and hydro-mechanical steering deliver excellent stability and control.
Volvo Dynamic Drive, a predictive gear selection function, uses sensors for incline, wheel speed and weight to skip to the best gear for the job, saving the fuel that is typically burned by shifting through multiple gears. Another intelligent function, Terrain Memory, is part of the automatic traction control system, identifying and remembering slippery road segments and proactively adjusting the differential locks to prevent wheel slip and preserve productivity in adverse conditions.
For best-in-class braking, the A60 is equipped with the Volvo Engine Brake, downhill speed control, cruise control, wet brakes on all wheels, and a service brake retarder system. These highlights, alongside Volvo CE features like OptiShift with Reverse By Braking, provide excellent off-road mobility and keep operators and sites as safe as possible. Digital tools such as Haul Assist with on-board weighing, Hill Assist and Connected Load Out further optimise productivity and uptime.
Visually, the A60 ADT got a makeover with its lower hood and additional LED light and camera options, contributing to a field of vision that exceeds industry standards. The cab is even more operator-friendly with a refreshed layout, a bigger integrated Volvo Co-Pilot display, lower noise levels and impressive handling.
The hauler’s reinforced axles can withstand heavier loads and higher levels of torque and stress. Maintenance costs are reduced by up to 5% over 12,000 hours of operation, thanks to simplified servicing and longer change intervals compared to the previous generation. The rotating hitch is maintenance-free and sits higher than competitors’ designs for better ground clearance and stability, said Volvo CE.
With a show theme of ‘Power Your Ambition,’ Volvo CE will have a 55,000-sq-ft booth at the Festival Grounds (F24029). In addition to nearly 20 machines – comprising 14 new or first-looks – the company will highlight services such as machine control systems, site solutions and advanced telematics that help customers work smarter and safer. Attendees can experience what it’s like to incorporate this technology into their fleets by visiting replicas of site offices.
The middle of the booth will feature an operating pit, where visitors can test internal combustion engine and electric excavator models. There will also be a structure housing machine simulators, a brand shop, meeting spaces and more.
